Andy Ellis and Sarah Walker are the latest players to be announced as part of the Suffolk Saxons squad. The badminton couple have been part of the AJ Bell National Badminton League in previous seasons and we are delighted that they are joining us for the 2016/17 season.
Andy Ellis is one of Britain’s leading badminton double’s players in the last decade. Andy is a two times European bronze medallist and a two times National champion. In 2014, Andy won team silver for England at the Commonwealth Games.
With a world ranking high of 9, Andy Ellis was a regular on the World Superseries circuit before retiring from the GB Programme in 2015. Andy’s passionate Yorkshire spirit alongside his 80% win rate alongside Chris Coles for Team Derby in last season’s NBL bodes well for the Suffolk Saxons in the upcoming season.
Sarah Walker is an outstanding women’s singles player and 2013 and 2014 National champion. Sarah currently trains in Milton Keynes and will join Suffolk Saxons this season to compete in the AJ Bell National Badminton League.
Born in Essex, Sarah won bronze in the women’s doubles at the 2007 European Junior Championships and turned professional in the same year. She has won 26 caps for England and competed in three National finals. Sarah has won team bronze for the European Mixed Team Championships in 2011 and 2013, proving herself as an excellent player in both individual and team badminton.
Last season, Sarah won the Championship point for Birmingham Lions, winning them the 2014/15 title, and Suffolk Saxons are excited to have this proven champion in the team.
Andy Ellis and Sarah Walker also run a number of badminton masterclasses across the country. Find out more about what they offer and how to get involved on our Masterclasses page.
